A Technical Conference on Coastal Resilience: The Environment, Infrastructure, and Human Systems

The conference on Coastal Resilience will be held on 21-23 May 2014 in association with the 37th meeting of the Scientific Group of the London Convention and 8th meeting of the Scientific Group of the London Protocol (26-30 May 2014). The conference, which is being hosted and chaired by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, will bring together members of the international technical community of scientists, engineers, industry, and government to consider and discuss the challenges and opportunities to enhancing the resilience of our coastal systems. The conference will include a series of plenary presentations from representatives of the international technical community and panel discussions that are designed to share information about the science and engineering relevant to coastal resilience.

The conference will address a broad range of technical issues, opportunities, and challenges relevant to coastal resilience, including sessions on:

  • Sustainable development, operation, and maintenance of coastal infrastructure for flood risk management, navigation, energy development, and natural capital;
  • Integrative approaches combining infrastructure and environmental objectives;
  • The role of environmental management and habitat conservation, including consideration of nutrient loading, fisheries habitat development, management of threatened and endangered species;
  • Climate change adaptation for responding to sea level rise and coastal storms;
  • The role of naturebased approaches, including Engineering With Nature and green infrastructure;
  • Regional Applications, to include regional sediment management and ecosystem restoration.

Conference Venue and Lodging
The Westin New Orleans Canal Place will serve as the conference venue. A block of guest rooms have been reserved at the group rate of $151.00 per night (plus taxes). New Orleans also offers a wide range of hotels in the area where the conference will be held.

Registration - There is no registration fee.
All participants are required to register for the conference, in advance, as space will be limited to the capacity of the meeting facilities. Early registration is strongly encouraged.
