Goals are broad statements of how we would like things to be, and are often provided in the form of policy and direction. Examples:
Goals may also be developed within a region, e.g.,
• A watershed study identifies water quality and fish and wildlife needs, and results in a goal of improving stream and riparian habitat over a 100-mile stretch of river.
• Concern over conditions in the bay results in a planning goal for cooperating agencies to manage an entire collection of coastal islands for increased fishery and shellfishery production, island-nesting birds, native vegetation, and recreation opportunities.
