Amphibians and Reptiles

Profiles of turtle species at Corps water-control projects have been prepared under the EMRRP to help users identify and proactively manage turtle issues. The profiles can be accessed at: http://el.erdc.usace.army.mil/emrrp/turtles/turtle.html.

Information is cross-referenced and linked, and organized by habitat type, geographic location, species name, and protection status. Information on how the turtles may be affected by Corps activities is included. Stand-alone technology notes on individual turtle groups and species can be seen at http://el.erdc.usace.army.mil/emrrp/tnotes.html under Species Information (SI).

Profiles on threatened and endangered species in the southeastern U.S. have been developed under the Strategic Environmental Research and Development Program of the Department of Defense. Each profile includes sections such as Taxonomy, Description, Similar Species, Status, Life History and Ecology, Habitat Requirements, Habitat Assessment, Impacts and Cause of Decline, Management and Protection, and Inventory and Census. Reports on Amphibians and Reptiles are available from the Society for the Study of Amphibians and Reptiles (SSAR): http://www.ukans.edu/~ssar/ssarpubs.html. The SSAR is preparing a catalog of amphibians and reptiles, which is comprised of loose-leaf accounts of taxa, including synonymy, definition, description, distribution map, and a comprehensive list of literature for each taxon. The catalog is issued by subscription only and not yet available on the Web.
