Mammalian Species Accounts are produced by the American Society of Mammalogists. Individual accounts can be purchased for $3.00. A cumulative index of species for which accounts are available is found at:

New accounts are published each year, summarizing the current understanding of the biology of the species including systematics, distribution, fossil history, genetics, anatomy, physiology, behavior, ecology, and conservation. Profiles on threatened and endangered species in the southeastern U.S. have been developed under the Strategic Environmental Research and Development Program of the Department of Defense. The profiles each include sections such as Taxonomy, Description, Similar Species, Status, Life History and Ecology, Habitat Requirements, Habitat Assessment, Impacts and Cause of Decline, Management and Protection, and Inventory and Census.
