Project Description: Dredging between Mile 4 above Head of Passes & Mile 22 Below Head of Passes. Five hopper dredges, a cutterhead, and a dustpan dredge were used to complete project. A portion of the work included dredging at the MS River Crossings located north of New Orleans. Below Mile 19 BHP is area of concern for sea turtles in SWP (STA 164-D and seaward). Fifty days of dredging was conducted in this area.

Description of mitigation measures/dates used: Deflectors were available and used when observers were on board the dredge, windows (11/30-3/31)
Other Remarks: Surface and mid-depth temperatures during the project ranged from 16.6-31° C. One unknown sea turtle species sighted in or near channel on 7/14/96. Low abundance of prey items and biological material detected during screen monitoring. Habitat monitoring data (depth, salinity, surface suspended solids) available in 1996 Sea Turtle Annual Report.
