Moderate Risk of Infestation
Recommended Preventive Measures:
- Monitor local water quality and physical parameters for changes at least monthly.
- Complete a risk inventory every 6 months, using recently collected data.
- Pay careful attention to the status and/or spread of zebra mussels within your local area.
- Begin a basic monitoring program for adults and veligers on a monthly time scale. When ambient water temperatures are above 12 ºC, it may be wise to collect monitoring data on a weekly basis.
- Design basic control measures that can be implemented quickly, in the event of infestation. Begin developing appropriate long-term control strategies.
- Establish a working relationship with state and local agencies that have access to detailed physio-chemical data sets as well as current local zebra mussel information.
- If any adult zebra mussels are observed attached to substrates in the area, begin an appropriate control program immediately (see the Management and Control section).
