Precautions

Chlorine dioxide has the following hazards and requires the following precautions:

  1. Corrosive, severe respiratory and eye irritant.

  2. May explosively decompose on shock, friction, concussion, or rapid heating.

  3. Strong oxidant--reacts violently with combustible and reducing materials, and with mercury, ammonia, sulphur, and many organic compounds.

  4. Safety glasses, face shield, gloves. Use effective ventilation.

  5. In dilute solution, is explosive at concentrations over 10 percent.
