Shell Opaque or Translucent

 

During and after the pediveliger stage, the Asian clam shell is opaque (i.e., one is unable to see through the shell). The zebra and quagga mussel shells are translucent (i.e., one can see through the shell, and in live specimens, the body parts are visible).
